POSITIVES…
If you’re a huge fan of everything Beyonce, then this should be perfect for you.
As a movie that’s primarily a huge music album; not unlike Michael Jackson’s “Moonwalker” and less like “Hamilton,” there are at least songs here that are nice and catchy.
I like that this is heavily influenced by Disney’s The Lion King, and it’s almost like a pseudo remake, with more social commentary. Just think of that if you’re trying to figure out the story of this movie.
Has some great striking stylistic visuals to see and admire.
There are themes to the narrative; that are established by the monologues, songs, and visuals, that are worth exploring further.
Can be seen as meditative, spiritual, and celebratory.
NEGATIVES…
In the sense of film cinema, this is what would be considered very very very artsy. Probably will be a big turn-off for a lot of people.
Those looking for a traditional narrative are going to be very disappointed.
Due to the abstract nature of the plot progression, there’s no real character to get invested in, which might not keep your interest in seeing through the movie.
Might not grab your attention at all, and boredom will set in.
For a movie that relies on the music a whole lot, I’m sorry to say that there are songs that I just didn’t care for at all.
