POSITIVES…
Fans of the video game franchise wanted a more bloody and violent movie adaptation, and they got it here.
Those gory fatalities are what the fans want to see, and there are some good ones to witness.
Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada are in this, and they are pretty awesome.
Josh Lawson as Kano is probably the most entertaining element of this movie.
There are some cool fight set pieces to see; especially during the third act, so that’s a plus.
Some nice special effects and visual flair that I appreciate seeing in this movie.
Easter eggs and call-backs to the video game can be so fun.
NEGATIVES…
Easter eggs and call-backs to the video game can be so cringey.
Story felt surprisingly lackluster and not epic enough for the world building it tries to create. Just falls under the weight of its own ambitions.
Plot contrivances and just general nonsense ruins things a bit.
Fight choreography seemed uninspired and not that memorable.
The way the movie concludes is such a huge let down.
Gotta say. Even though the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie adaptation was cheezy and cheap looking, I think I actually had more fun watching that.
