Bill & Ted Face The Music

POSITIVES…

  • If you’re already a fan of the duo, it’s instantly a thrill seeing Alex Winters and Keanu Reeves as Bill & Ted once again.

  • I appreciated how this still completely embraces this particular version of time travelling, that’s completely nonsensical and illogical in nature, that should obviously create tons of plot holes, and huge migraines for trying to make heads or tails of it. Yet, there’s a charm to this logic.

  • The gimmick of having Bill & Ted interacting with themselves is probably my most favorite thing about this movie.

  • Prosthetic makeup. Lots of fun with that.

  • Kudos to Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine, as Thea & Billie, doing their best in trying to imitate Bill & Ted.

  • Anthony Carrigan as the robot totally put a huge smile on my face.

  • William Sadler as Death was a delight to see once again.

  • All the surprise cameo and new characters plucked from the timeline. Fantastic.

  • Gotta give the writers props for giving me a relatively satisfying and acceptable ending to this trilogy.

  • Most excellent and most appropriate after credits scene.

NEGATIVES…

  • The opening scenes doesn’t quite grab you right away, and it might just take a little longer before you open up to the movie.

  • If you’re not up for the nonsensical illogical nature of the story, then you are not going to be down with this.

  • Actually, if you aren’t already a fan of Bill & Ted, then this is not for you.

  • Stereotypical California Surfer Dude speak can get tiring after a while.

  • There’s a huge plot reveal that’s a little too predictable, which kinda diffuses any notions of any minds being blown away.

Justice League Dark Apokolips War

POSITIVES…

  • Epic action set pieces.

  • John Constantine continues to be a cool character.

  • I liked Etrigan too.

  • Some solid character moments in the final act.

  • The overall premise of the movie is worth exploring further.

NEGATIVES…

  • The sheer amount of violence, destruction, gore, and death, were so over the top, it felt like they were put in this superhero comic book movie just for the shock value.

  • Plot seems to determine the narrative more than having actual proper storytelling.

  • A lot of it’s sense of humor felt lazy and uninspired.

  • Relies way too much on plot conveniences, that it inadvertently made the plot predictable.

  • Story is just a mess and opens itself to an amazing amount of nitpicking.

  • Except for a very few, most of these legendary super heroic characters were treated in such a disposable manner, that it’s almost like the filmmakers just didn’t care.

  • Felt like the whole thing was made by people who just wanted some unnecessarily edgy fan-service darker depiction of the Justice League, just because it’s supposed to be cool? No. It’s not cool.

  • In the end, it all just felt like a waste of time, and without any significant meaning or point. Unless the point of it all was just that it was supposed to be a much darker superhero movie than normal, because you know, Justice League DARK…

Boys State

POSITIVES…

  • Very fascinating documentary about the political process as demonstrated by 1100 sixteen to eighteen year old young adults in Texas.

  • This film manages to capture incredible character arcs with the individuals they chose to feature. It was hard not to get invested with where the stories were going.

  • Plot twists, surprises, and reveals! There were some awesome ones here!

  • Gotta love how the subplot about impeachment went.

  • Scenes on what people will do to get votes. So many familiar political stuff that we all can relate to.

  • The speeches! It had fun showing some bad ones, but the good ones they did show were fantastic to listen to.

  • This documentary should open your eyes a bit about politics, ideologies, discourse, and how we all as human beings should consider going about it.

  • Also consider this, but this might have just shown us some future political leaders.

NEGATIVES…

  • It’s still a film about politics, and not everybody is going to like that.

  • With there being two political camps in this story, the documentary unfortunately focuses on one camp just a bit more than the other.

  • There’s a bunch of stuff I wish this documentary actually covered.

Chemical Hearts

POSITIVES…

  • This story is made for hopeless romantics and especially those who are experiencing young love as a teenager.

  • Speaking of whom, teenagers all over will appreciate one of the central themes of this movie.

  • In fact, I really loved one particular monologue Lili Reinhart makes in the library on that topic.

  • There are many scenes of dialogue that are scattered throughout the story that are pretty good to listen to, and I especially enjoyed the ones that explains emotions in a scientific fashion.

  • Austin Abrams and Lili Reinhart are good in their roles, and carried the whole movie very well.

  • Appreciated the attempt at portraying teenagers and young love in a more realistic view.

  • Excellent soundtrack.

NEGATIVES…

  • Kinda melodramatic and pretentious at times.

  • While it tries to do the young romance genre a little differently, the plot still falls back to some familiar cliches and conveniences when I wished it wouldn’t.

  • I’m going to say that it isn’t because of some preconceived biases, but I really couldn’t see Austin Abrams and Lili Reinhart as a couple at all.

The Sleepover

POSITIVES…

  • As a kid’s action adventure movie, it makes a lot of good decisions to keep things fun.

  • The set pieces littered throughout the story were all perfectly entertaining, and constantly kept me engaged and invested with where the narrative was taking me.

  • It’s sense of humor is actually something both kids and adults can equally enjoy. I know I laughed more times than I thought I ever would for this.

  • I especially loved the running jokes in this movie. There’s one involving Joe Manganiello that just cracks me up.

  • Overall cast is good in this, but huge shout out to Ken Marino, Maxwell Simkins, and Cree Cicchino, for specifically being the comedy reliefs in this movie.

  • Appreciated the family friendly tone and familiar yet comfortable plot, that kept me entertained throughout.

  • There’s a bit of self-awareness found with the characters, jokes, and references, that helped me easily accept the movie for what it is.

NEGATIVES…

  • Premise and plot-wise, it’s not doing anything extraordinary, or unpredictable.

  • Comedy is subjective. Kid comedies even more so. Hope you can still find fun watching this.

  • Logic-wise, there’s a lot of plot flaws you’re going to just need to ignore, lest it ruins your experience watching this.

The One and Only Ivan

POSITIVES…

  • While just loosely inspired by the true story, it overall has its heart in the right place with it’s themes and messages that are worth embracing from a young age.

  • CGI animals are well animated enough to not get too distracted.

  • Fantastic voice cast, from Sam Rockwell, Danny DeVito, to Brooklynn Prince.

  • Bob the Dog. Scene stealer. Entertainer. One of the reasons to see this movie.

  • I unashamedly laughed at the jokes that were clearly targeted for kids.

  • Appreciated the restraint the narrative had of not telling us a story that is too over-the-top. The straightforward simplicity works for this story.

  • Going into this movie without much knowledge of what to expect, I was surprised at how emotionally it was. Depressing even. As a fan of animals in general, this film got me to tear up.

NEGATIVES…

  • Probably two slow; and sad, for kids to fully be entertained.

  • Not exactly the most dynamic and energetic movie around.

  • Those familiar with the true story will be annoyed that this movie is unsurprisingly Disneyfied and sanitized from the truth.

Spree

POSITIVES…

  • The premise of this movie being a satirical disturbing commentary about the social media age that we live in right now, is so very much engaging to watch.

  • While you kinda have an idea where the story is going, the movie keeps you glued enough to want to see where the story is going.

  • Outrageously shocking, but with thought provoking things to say.

  • Joe Keery and Sasheer Zamata are fantastic in this. They bring a lot of energy, and emotions, to their roles.

  • While I questioned its use of different camera angles, tricks, and aspect ratios, it actually really really works for this kind of film.

  • Those comments that pop up in the live streaming feeds also adds additional layers to the movie.

  • A modern horror movie about today’s social media generation. This is some dark ****

NEGATIVES…

  • Some people might find the subject matter and several of the characters to be quite obnoxious.

  • So much nihilism and pessimism in this film. Really not for everybody.

  • There are plot points in this movie that can be quite unbelievable. Hope they don’t break your suspension of disbelief too much.

  • Majority of the film is in a car, and so many people are not putting on their seat belts…

Yes, God, Yes

POSITIVES…

  • Liked the premise of this movie, and the straightforward simplicity of the plot.

  • Natalia Dyer is just perfect in the role of Alice. Really captures that naive, confused, innocent character that is suddenly confronted with a sexual awakening.

  • A lot of the charm and enjoyment of this story, is seeing what Alice is going to do in this movie.

  • Had fun with all the sexual innuendos and jokes.

  • Loved some of the running plot threads, like the reference to Titanic, and about a certain name for a sex act.

  • The general themes and lessons of the story are things you just can’t ignore in life, and that’s worth being exposed to by this film.

NEGATIVES…

  • If you are religious, you might find this movie a little one-sided and blasphemous to watch.

  • Relies on some tired plot tropes and cliches.

  • Almost eye-rolling unbelievable to see some of the poor decisions certain characters make in the movie.

Saint Frances

POSITIVES…

  • Kudos to the screenplay for the frank, snarky, and rude dialogue that’s found in this movie. I was very entertained by it.

  • The sheer honesty found in this movie is a breath of fresh air, and it was easy to get engaged with the premise. I hope you don’t get too offended.

  • Writer / Lead Actress Kelly O’Sullivan deserves praise for this story, and for playing the role of Bridget who is quite the character.

  • Ramona Edith Williams as Frances is adorable and fantastic in this! Such the scene stealer. Loved the things she says in this. Out of the mouth of babes indeed.

  • The interactions between Bridget and Frances is just the best and most delightful thing ever. Definitely the highlight of watching this movie.

  • Really appreciated the subject matters and themes that this movie tackles. Food for thought.

  • I was pleasantly surprised at the running joke that is… blood.

  • “It’s the truth, and women should talk about it more often. Wouldn’t be as lonely.”

NEGATIVES…

  • I know the character of Bridget can be a bit off putting, and if you can’t put up with that, this movie is not going to work for you.

  • There are plot turns and character decisions that you are not going to agree with, and that might deter you from ultimately enjoying the story.

  • In fact, a certain plot point really just might push your suspension of disbelief.

I used to go here

POSITIVES…

  • Sometimes you just need to watch a perfectly fine light-hearted comedy, and this is one of them.

  • If you’ve ever wondered what it could be like to visit your old alma mater, then I think you’d get a kick out of this movie.

  • Novelists and aspiring novelists will appreciate some plot points presented in the movie.

  • There are some running gags revolving a bed and breakfast that I rather enjoyed.

  • A set piece involving investigating, sneaking around, and whatnot, was the main highlight of this film.

  • Gillian Jacobs, Jemaine Clement, and the rest of the supporting cast are all good in this.

  • Tall Brandon.

NEGATIVES…

  • It’s not a laugh riot if that’s what you were hoping for.

  • It’s also not the most exciting or fast moving film either.

  • It’s just perfectly fine, in a potentially forgettable way.

  • There’s a recurring plot point that is questionably played too lightheartedly, that some people might take issue with.
